Success — Dev Got a Letter From the Education Secretary on School Food!

The Education Secretary, Rt Hon Nadhim Zahawi MP, has written to Dev to confirm that his team are working on reforms to the way school food standards are monitored!

At the end of last year we released our #SpillTheBeans report highlighting what school food is really like across the country. And there were some shocking insights. Our conversations with students suggest that the school food standards are routinely not being upheld, and participants told us again and again that canteens were flooded with unhealthy options that were also cheaper than nutritious alternatives.

We want school to be a place where every pupil gets good food, that sets them up for class and helps them reach their full potential. It is the one place where we could make absolutely sure that all children get a decent meal, no matter where they’re from.

Something has to be done, so over the past couple of months we've been calling on the Government to step in and ensure that school food standards are upheld for students across the country. Following meetings with MPs and decision makers to share our findings, we've had a big success this week!

The government expects all schools to promote healthy eating and provide healthy, tasty and nutritious food according to the School Food Standards. [...] We are committed to the health and wellbeing of pupils and ensuring schools provide food that meets our standards. My officials are actively working through options and considering what more can be done to ensure schools feel supported and can comply with the School Food Standards. "
